Honduras

Country Overview

The country's Caribbean coastline borders brilliant waters Columbus first described as exceptionally "hondo" or deep, and inspired the name Honduras. Today those same deep waters wash against the offshore Bay Islands of Honduras considered by many the Caribbean's premier dive region.

Deep within the mountainous Honduran mainland lies the classic pre-Columbian city Copán. Also in the highlands capital Tegucigalpa retains its colonial look; while booming San Pedro Sula, surrounded by immense banana and pineapple fields is now the country's largest city.

Honduras boasts many newly created national parks, wildlife reserves and protected regions.
