Each austral spring wine- makers from all over Chile gather at Hotel Plaza San Francisco in Santiago to offer a sampling of their finest wines. Guests are welcomed to move from booth to booth in the gala tent that's erected in the adjacent Plaza San Francisco, tasting wine from more than 30 of Chile's top vintners. Servers pass hors d'oeuvres and there are tables of elegant snacks.
LatinWineries.com has created a unique tour to Santiago using the wine festival as the centerpiece. From our base at the five-star Hotel Plaza San Francisco we'll spend two full days in the wine producing valleys surrounding Santiago, touring the wineries and visiting tasting rooms. On our first evening in Santiago we'll be treated to a private wine tasting conducted by the Plaza's sommelier followed by dinner in its award winning Bristol Restaurant. Two other evenings are reserved for the wine festival.
We'll also have an introductory half-day city tour that includes a visit to Los Dominicos - a handicraft community in the shadows of the Andes.
There will be plenty of time to browse the pedestrian malls and historic sites near our centrally located hotel, enjoy a seafood lunch at the Centro Mercado or take in a museum. Santiago is a safe, clean city that is easy to explore on foot or by subway.
This year we're offering an optional full-day excursion to Chile's Pacific coast. We'll tour it's port city, Valpairaso and nearby resort city Viña del Mar. We'll also make a stop at the home of Chile's late Nobel Prize-winning poet, Pablo Neruda, in Isla Negra. The drive to the coast takes us through fertile valleys dotted with vineyards and orchards.
This is a unique chance to discover Chile and its finest wines.
